The DGBMT Annual Conference on Biomedical Engineering takes place in Duisburg, Rhein-Ruhr on September 26-28, 2023.

TThe iWOAR is a conference-like workshop organized by the Technische Hochschule Lübeck, Universität zu Lübeck and Fraunhofer IMTE. It offers scientists, interested parties, and users in the area of human activity recognition - and on a more general level wearable computing - the possibility of an exchange of experiences, a presentation of best-practice examples, as well as technical and scientific results. 

Promotion of young talents along the 4Ds. The Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Immune-Mediated Diseases CIMD aims to facilitate and simplify education along the 4Ds (Drugs, Diagnostics, Data, Devices) by supporting young scientists. Cooperation between different disciplines is to be encouraged - a prerequisite for the implementation of 4Ds. In addition to various workshops along the 4Ds, the cluster is planning a summer school in Leipzig, intended for doctoral students and young postdocs (max. 2 years after doctorate) in the field of immune-mediated diseases.

Tutorials & Scientific Conference. The scientific conference AMMM brings together engineers, scientists and technicians with physicians and entrepreneurs to discuss the latest achievements in 3D printing development for medicine. 

Advanced Training & Summer School. Additive manufacturing, often referred to as 3D printing, has long since proven its suitability for everyday use. However, many questions remain unanswered for use in medicine. Complex melting and hardening processes take place during the layer-by-layer construction of medical devices from liquid or solid materials, the physical-chemical modelling of which is often still pending, so that a discussion forum is to be given at AMMM on topics relating to the achievable precision and the expected technical properties of the medical devices produced in this way.

On June 22 and 23, 2023, the 21st Fraunhofer Seminar »Models of Lung Disease« will be held in Hannover, Germany. For the 21st time already, this workshop offers experts from academia and industry an excellent platform to discuss the latest topics and questions in lung research.We would be pleased to welcome you at another »summer edition« of this workshop.

In 2023, alternative methods to animal testing will again be at the focus of a one-day workshop at Fraunhofer ITEM in Hannover organized by the Fraunhofer Cluster Immune-Mediated Diseases CIMD. Apart from expert talks on in-vitro and ex-vivo models for toxicology, pharmacology and infection research, there will be plenty of time for scientific exchange.

Experts from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft will be providing insights into their current work at DMEA 2023 in Berlin and answering questions about tomorrow’s health IT. We cordially invite you to visit us at the joint Fraunhofer stand in hall 2.2, booth D107.

Das Fraunhofer ITMP organisiert vom 20.-22. April 2023 die interdisziplinäre Fortbildungsveranstaltung »Exzellenzkurs SPA - Psoriasis-Arthritis und axiale Spondyloarthritis«. Hier werden die wesentlichen Aspekte aus Pathophysiologie, Diagnostik und Therapie besprochen, aber auch die Schnittstellen zu benachbarten Fächern beleuchtet.

In addition to various ultrasound therapy transducers and software solutions, the department of Ultrasound of the Fraunhofer IBMT will present a new multi-channel 3D US therapy system.

This year’s Precision In Clinical Trials Summit will be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from April 3 to 4, 2023. Dr. Philipp Badorrek from Fraunhofer ITEM will give a lecture there: »Site Budget – Perspective of the Investigator«

Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) is a novel imaging modality that uses various static and oscillating magnetic fields to image the spatial distribution of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIOs) with high sensitivity, no tissue background, and no ionizing radiation. The method exploits the non-linear magnetization behavior of the SPIOs, and has shown great potential to surpass current in vivo imaging modalities in terms of sensitivity, safety, quantitation, and spatio-temporal resolution. MPI is well suited for clinical applications such as angiography, cancer imaging, and inflammation imaging; as well as research applications such as stem cell imaging and small animal imaging.

This training course will introduce the participants to different in-silico approaches for estimation of human health toxicological endpoints, namely QSAR models, read-across, and the TTC (threshold of toxicological concern) concept. The training will also outline the basic principles of physiologically based kinetic (PBK) modeling, whereas the application of in-silico approaches in ecotoxicology will not be addressed in this course.
